The Family Fun Friday will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. CLICK HERE to read about classroom activities, artwork on display and other information.

Thanks to all who have provided support during this school year.  All of our fundraising endeavors have been received with incredible participation.  We pledged to you at the beginning of the year that our fundraising would not include students selling items.  And, we’ve stayed true to our word. We began the year with our Arrow Dash 5K, in which over 500 people participated.  Our Fall Carnival in October included food, games and prizes for the entire family, as well as a pet parade, which kept everyone entertained!  Our Kroger Community Rewards Program, which is an ongoing program, is increasing in participation daily (for more info go to  And our last fundraiser, the Spring Book Fair and Family Fun Friday surpassed our expectations with attendance and support.

We will conclude our fundraising efforts with an UN-FUNDRAISER, beginning Friday, April 4.  An “un-fundraiser” is a way to raise money without selling or purchasing anything.  100% of your donation will go directly to the PTO.  All donations are tax deductible.  And, this event is eligible for an employer matching funds program (please check with your Human Resources Department to see if your company would be interested in matching donations).

This year’s UN-FUNDRAISER dollars will be designated for the purchase of additional playground equipmentIn 2012 when the new campus was constructed, the District, along with the PTO purchased several pieces of playground equipment to get us on our feet.  The vision was to increase the playground in four phases, with a total projected cost of $180,000.  The cost of the first phase is estimated at $43,000.  We currently have 770 students who use the playground daily (the manufacturer of the equipment recommends a maximum of 530 students for the equipment currently in use).  With the anticipated increase in enrollment for the upcoming 2014-15 school year, it is critical that we have the resources necessary to meet the demand. Therefore, we have a lot of work to do!

Please complete the form located on the back of this letter, and return it, along with your donation to the PTO. (If paying by check: Northside PTO).  The deadline for this campaign is Friday, April 25.  We ask that you give whatever you can – no amount is too small.  If you are able to make a larger donation, please consider doing so, as not every family has the means to give.  Please encourage other family members, friends or neighbors to give towards this cause. They may visit the Northside Elementary website, located at in the “School” section and download a copy of the un-fundraiser letter and donation form. If you’d like a receipt for your tax records, please indicate “Un-Fundraiser – Tax Deduction” in the memo line of the check.

Any child who contributes $25 or more will be eligible to attend a popsicle party. There will also be an ice cream party for the top classrooms in each grade that bring in the most money.

We are very blessed to live in a District that both provides and supports exceptional public schools.  Clinton is the second highest-scoring school district in the State.  It is the only district in the metro area that has consistently achieved an “A” rating, the highest possible academic ranking in Mississippi.  This could not be possible without the support of parents, family members and our community.

Again, thank you for your continued support of our students and teachers at Northside!  We are grateful for your generosity as we work together to meet the needs of our children and the future generation of children to come.

Memo To All NS Parents

From: Joy Tyner

RE:  Parent Resources

PowerSchool is our database for grades.  Once parents have paid fees, they have full access to their child’s grades by using the login information sent home earlier this year.  The link for PowerSchool is listed on the left hand side of the Northside website as “Grades online”. Teachers update all grades by Tuesday.  Example:  If your child took a test Wednesday, October 9 – the grade should be posted no later than Tuesday, October 15.  If you have PowerSchool questions, call or email Mrs. Pope.

All Northside students are taught math standards using enVision math. You can access the enVision website by clicking on the link on the Northside Web page and then entering your personal user name and password.  The link is located under Parent Resources at the top of our webpage. Our math teachers sent home usernames and passwords earlier this year.  If you need any additional help with the enVision math parent portal, please contact your child’s math teacher.

Parents can monitor their child’s progress in the Accelerated Reader program by logging into Home Connect.  You can also use the Accelerated Reader search engine to search for book titles in a certain reading range, or by author. Both of these websites can be accessed on the Northside webpage under the Parent Resources tab at the top of the page.

Tumblebooks provides access to books online.  Access to Tumblebooks is also found on the Northside webpage in the drop down menu, Parent Resources.  The username: Northside601   Password: books

Our newest home resource is Study Island.  Every Northside student has a username and password that was sent home.  Study Island provides practice for every Language Arts Standard taught at our school year.   If you need additional guidance in using Study Island with your child at home, please contact your child’s Language Arts teacher or interventionist.  This website can also be accessed through the Northside Website under parent resources.
