Students in Mrs. Connie Cade’s Language Arts class at Lovett are currently reading the novel, The Cay by Theodore Taylor.  In the novel, the two main characters are stranded on a deserted island with no way of communicating with the outside world.  One of the main characters has just climbed a palm tree and retrieved some coconuts for them to eat.  They are very excited because after a month of being stranded on the island, they are finally eating something that doesn’t come from the ocean.

In order to have a visual of what the characters in the novel are experiencing, students in Mrs. Cade’s class are getting to see, smell, and hold an actual real coconut.  Pictured is Mr. Lee, the school’s custodian, doing the challenging task of opening the coconut as students in Mrs. Cade’s homeroom class observe.

Abhay Cheruku is a 6th grade at Lovett Elementary school in Mrs. Connie Cade’s class.  Abhay was selected as the essay winner of Clinton’s local VFW Post’s annual “Patriot’s Pen” writing contest. Abhay received a framed certificate and a cash award of $50.  Abhay’s essay on “What Freedom Means to Me” will now advance to the VFW regional level where if his essay receives first place there, it will then advance to the VFW state level.  The first-place winner from the state level will advance to the VFW national level competition in Washington, D.C.  The winner from each state level will compete for national cash prizes of up to $5,000.  We are very proud of Abhay’s writing efforts and wish him the best of luck!

Attention Parents Who Pick Up Their Child After School
Please do not pull into the Lovett driveway until 3:30 p.m. to pick up your child after school. This will allow the first two groups of busses to come through and allow us to get the car riding students out on the porch. Please do not pull around other parents who are waiting in line. The first car in line will pull in at 3:30 or as directed by staff. Thank you for your cooperation.
